The Contemporary Existence of the Kalmyk Language from the Perspective of Folklore Tradition (evidence from records of T.S. Tyaginova)

Abstract

The paper examines the language of folklore records from the perspective of a certain Kalmyk dialect speaker. Thematically, the dialectal lexical layer in the word-stock of the taleteller T.S. Tyaginova is not that diverse which testifies that the informant’s language is not actually too dialectal by nature but still such lexis does influence the formation of the linguistic world-image of the ethnos. Further analyses with evidence from vast folklore materials recorded among the various Kalmyk sub-ethnic groups shall reveal new aspects in the studies of clusters of local lexis as a source of data about fragments of the regional linguistic view of the world.
