Taranatha – Tibetan religious fugure and historian

Abstract

The article provides an overview of major events in the life and activities of the famous Tibetan historian and religious leader Taranatha. The author reveals the essence of the teachings of the Buddhist Jonang school. Particular attention is drawn to the fact that historical and biographical writings of Taranatha are an important source of study of the development of Buddhism in India.
